Pale Waves Music Video
PALE WAVES
I was asked to create authentic tagged up graffiti art for the set of the Pale Waves music video, You Don’t Own Me, with words that related to the song lyrics. You know the kind of thing you see in the toilets of a dodgy club (I would take a photo).
I relied on my past experience in the London street art scene to design and create the piece.
It was a large set. There was a LOT of paint.
It was mad fun.
“You Don’t Own Me is a song for women about what it’s like to be a woman in this world. How society depicts, judges and criticises women on a daily basis. This song is incredibly important to me and I wanted to represent my own experiences. I also wanted to say a fuck you to everyone that plays by these fake delusional rules that women and gender need to fit inside a specific box. My favourite video yet – Amazing set.” – Heather Baron–Gracie
“We used a lot of the slogans we believe in on the walls, like pussy power” – Kelsi Luck
Reaction
“This whole song and video is an (almost self-parodical) essence of being rebellious teenager. Everything about this video is edgy as f*ck - the graffiti background, Heather's movements and gestures, overall punkish style, hair colours, ... It’s cringey but at the same time it’s also the reason why this video & song are great.” – Gelaos5753
